Welcome to LTA 3 2026-2027 School Year!

 


 LTA 3rd Grade Families, 

Welcome to a brand-new school year! We are so excited to continue your Lemmon Tree Academy journey with all of you. As part of Lemmon Tree Academy, We have added class names. LTA 3rd grade will be the Oaks Class! Another thing to add School, start and end time for LTA has changed! School starts at 8:30 and all students have to be picked up by 3! My name is Krista Smith, and I’ll be your child’s teacher this year. I have been a part of the Frankie Lemmon family since 2016, and I look forward to creating a warm, safe, and engaging classroom where every student feels valued, respected, and encouraged to shine. 

This year, I am thrilled to work alongside a new Teacher Assistant Rachel. We will also have Stepanie be working in our class and LTA 4. This will be Rachel’s first year at Frankie Lemmon, and she is super excited to join the Frankie Lemmon Family! 

We will explore, create, and learn in ways that inspire curiosity and build confidence. I believe learning is a team effort, and when teachers, families, and students work together, incredible things happen. 

Here are a few things to know as we begin: 

● Communication: We will send home a daily sheet with general updates about your child’s day. In addition, a monthly blog will be posted and shared with you. We will also be using the Remind app again this year — please use the code flslta3 to join our class. ○ Also if you haven’t join the school Remind app, it is separate from our class Remind group! 


● Supplies & Materials: Please send pull-ups, extra clothes (including underwear and socks) to keep at school. 



● Family Photos: We’d love to have family pictures posted in the classroom! If possible, please send in a printed photo of your family, or feel free to email one to us. 

● Footwear: For safety, please have your child wear shoes that stay securely on their feet. 

● Partnership: Your support means so much! Whether it’s reviewing the daily sheet, talking about their day, or attending family school partnership activities, every bit of involvement is important to us. 

● Family Orientation Wednesday, Aug. 26, 9:00-10:00 ○ Playdate 10:00-11:00 outside on the playground

September LTA 3

  We’ve had a wonderful first month of school! The students have been busy learning all about our classroom routines, rules, and expectations. We’re also learning how to play kindly with friends, take turns, and share — all important parts of building our classroom community. In math, we’ve been working on counting and recognizing numbers, and the children are doing a fantastic job! At the end of September, we started a fun unit on apples! We explored different types of apples and shared our favorites by choosing between red, green, and yellow. In social studies and English language arts, we learned about the Constitution and talked about our rights in kid-friendly ways. We’re excited to continue our apple activities and begin exploring all the wonders of fall — including colorful leaves and pumpkins!

April 2026

April was full of lots of fun! We talked about budgeting, spending, saving, and donating. We worked on more sight words and letter sounds! During math, we worked on learning how to read time on a clock. We practiced reading the hour on both analog and digital clocks. We enjoyed going to the Durham Museum, some of us more than others! We also had fun playing together in the classroom and outside on the playground. We are so sad that the end of the year is quickly approaching!

November LTA 3

Lots of growth this month! We are in the full swing of school and are confident in our routines and expectations. This month, we explored history—talking about jobs from the past and imagining jobs of the future. We also learned about Thanksgiving: how it began, how we celebrate it today, and the different ways families celebrate. We enjoyed making a few crafts and coloring sight words each week. We continue to work on a new digraph sound every week as well. In math, we began learning about place value by introducing ones, tens, and hundreds. We will continue to dive deeper into this concept. We have also been practicing skip counting by 10s. We’ve loved playing outside with all our Lemon Tree friends! It was wonderful having families join us for our Thanksgiving activity last week. We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This coming month, we will be learning all about traditions!
